Amateur photographers are being invited to get out their cameras for a competition to mark the 125th anniversary of West Smethwick Park. Photos of the park throughout 2020 – the 125th year since it opened in 1895 – will be turned into a 2021 calendar. Social workers across the City of Wolverhampton Council’s Children’s and Adults services received recognition for successfully completing their Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE). Live jazz and blues will be heard at Sandwell’s libraries throughout 2020 following a successful bid for funding to Arts Council England. The Live at the Library festival will run for 12 months and builds on the success of libraries holding summer concerts as part of the Birmingham, Sandwell & Westside Jazz Festival over recent years. A new exhibition coming to Wolverhampton Art Gallery uses the story of the Mayor of Wolverhampton’s personal family history to reflect on the wider history of the City of Wolverhampton and its people. Volunteers and members at Bloomfield’s Over 50s Club in Tipton enjoyed a Christmas meal and entertainment with support from a Sandwell Council town grant. The group, which meets at Brook Street Community Centre, supports people throughout the year and provides opportunities for meeting up which helps reduce social isolation. The club, which has been running for 15 years, provides leisure and recreational activities for people aged 50 and over in Tipton area to improve their quality of life. Dudley Council staff and councillors will be going head to head at Stourbridge Cricket Club on August 2.
